When most people think of espresso, they think dark, bold beans. However, just like espresso isn't type of coffee (it's a brew method), you can use ANY roast level of coffee to make it. Of course dark beans are going to give you a deep, rich, bold shot of espresso  - but a lighter roast can also achieve a similar result if done properly - it just takes some extra "dialing in" to get it right. Lighter beans need to be ground finer and hotter water helps extract from the more denser bean. Using lighter roasted beans results in a more acidic/bright cup of espresso with more of the natural flavor of the coffee's origin in the cup. If you are pulling a shot of a light roasted Ethiopian coffee as espresso, you might might expect to get a bright, fruit bomb.

With this Neu Wave blend of a honey processed Brazil and a super fruity and bright Colombia Pink Bourbon you will get notes of chocolate dipped berries and a wonderful Marzipan finish. Don't be afraid to experiment with this and grind finer or change the water temp around to get the flavors you want. Espresso is an adventure - enjoy the process! And remember, since there is no such thing as "espresso beans," you can use this coffee in your Mr. Coffee machine or as a manual pour over. Your choice!
