DARK ROASTS
Bold, smokey and syrupy!
Dark roasted coffee is bold, rich, and full-bodied, known for its smoky, bittersweet flavor profile. As the beans are roasted longer, they develop deep flavors of dark chocolate, toasted almonds, and even subtle hints of spice. The natural oils in the beans can start to rise to the surface, giving the beans a shiny appearance and a heavier mouthfeel. At a darker roast level, much of the coffee's acidity is muted. Dark roasts offer a smooth, robust experience, perfect for those who prefer a strong, intense cup and the ideal candidate for a rich and creamy latte.
At the dark roast level, sugars in the beans are fully caramelized, and the roasting process imparts its own set of flavors, taking precedence over the bean’s original characteristics. The longer roasting time reduces acidity and brings out the smoky, sometimes charred undertones that dark roast lovers enjoy. Cuckoo Coffee does not roast dark enough for oil to come to the surface of the bean. This is intensional, as oily beans can become rancid quickly when exposed to oxygen.
