Info
The Kayon Mountain coffee farm sits high in the lush hills of southern Ethiopia, about 510 kilometers from Addis Ababa, right where the villages of Taro and Sewana meet in the Guji zone’s Shakiso district. The farm covers roughly 500 hectares, with about 300 hectares planted in coffee - an expansive, green patchwork of trees that produce some seriously memorable cups.

The farm has been owned and run by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family since 2012. Ismael manages a team of about 25 full-time staff along with nearly 300 seasonal workers during harvest. Because a nearby mining town competes for labor, Ismael makes a point of paying higher wages to pickers so they’ll return year after year - a move that benefits both the workers and the quality of the harvest.

Kayon Mountain is also deeply connected to its local community. The farm provides free transportation for workers and helps fund the construction of schools and administrative buildings in nearby villages. It’s the kind of operation where great coffee and community support go hand in hand.
