Suddenly, it’s almost summer again. My favorite part of summer is enjoying an ice cold glass of cold brew on the porch with my golden retriever. But because it gets hotter later in the day, drinking fully caffeinated coffee can sometimes it be problematic. This blend of Brazil and Guatemala is a perfect balance of flavor and just the right amount of caffeine for anytime of day.

Cold brew coffee is a method of brewing coffee in which ground coffee beans are steeped in cold water for an extended period, typically 12 to 24 hours. This process produces a smooth, flavorful coffee concentrate that can be diluted with water, milk, or other liquids before serving. Here are some key points about cold brew coffee:
  • Brewing Method: Unlike traditional hot coffee, cold brew is made by steeping coarse coffee grounds in cold water. The prolonged brewing time allows for a slow extraction of flavors and a less acidic cup. Another way to make cold brew is to brew as a manual pour over into a glass of ice - the ice will flash chill the coffee and since hot water is used to extract the coffee, the brew will be have more brightness and acidity.

  • Flavor Profile: Cold brew coffee is known for its smooth, mellow flavor with low acidity and bitterness. This makes it a popular choice for those who find hot coffee too harsh or acidic.

  • Concentration: The resulting coffee concentrate can be quite strong, often requiring dilution with water, milk, or cream before consumption. It can also be used as a base for various coffee drinks.

  • Storage: Cold brew coffee can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, making it convenient for those who want to prepare a large batch and enjoy it over several days.

  • Serving: Cold brew is typically served over ice, making it a refreshing choice for hot weather. It can also be sweetened or flavored with syrups, spices, or other additions.

  • Health Benefits: Because cold brew is less acidic than hot coffee, it can be gentler on the stomach and teeth. Additionally, it retains many of the antioxidants found in coffee.
Remember, just because this is called a "Cold Brew Blend" doesn't mean you can't brew it like you normally would. It tastes just as good hot as it does cold.
